Celebratory lunch (D1-LA, wide open)

"A few years..." Mara trailed off as she replied, looking a bit uncomfortable, "it's good to see you though." She immediately perked up so whatever that was seemed to have nothing to do with the newcomer. "Want some?" She divided up what was left making sure to make a bowl to push in the direction of dragon-girl, since that thing looked a bit too big to share with. Plus, it's on fire... who wants burnt food?

"No thanks. I might go for a swim in a bit. It is good to see you. I finally got my own monster." Ashley always like seeing Mara's mother's monsters since her parents would never let her have one.

She turns to Calico. "That's a very pretty Saturnadus. My grandpa had a few."

Mr. Wiggles begins glowing a multitude of colors. Clearly, he would show who the prettiest here was.

"Well, one froze my bed one time when I didn't play with her enough."

Mr. Wiggles moved so he could rest his head on Ashley's shoulder.

"Yeah. that sounds like him.."

Mara noticed the girl and dragon growling at each other and the bowl being crunched. Oh well... "Are you hungry?"

The red haired girl turned in the direction of the voices again, before turning back an dipping some fingers into the bowl to take one of the meats out of it. Frowning, then taking a small bite.

After swallowing, she growled something to the Dragon, which then caused the Dragon to pick up the bowl in one, crunching it again. The meat and liquids falling as much around the mouth as in it, but it seemed to eat it.

"Food free?" the girl finally said in a normal tone, looking back at the woman that had asked. Clearly cautious, with a hand hovering near the bow on her back.

"Yes. Free." Mara spoke carefully, trying to keep her tone even. The hand near was a bit too close to that bow and she didn't want anyone aiming an arrow at Blitz. "It's OK! Come get it!"

"Ashley! Mr Wiggles is so cute! How long have you had him?" Cute wasn't how most people would describe worms, but this one glowed.

Blitz was batting at the fluttering feather, and kept trying to tap it back over to Orlok.

Who kept fluttering it back with his wings, trying to send it a bit higher, as if trying to make the staguar jump for it.

"Ashley! Mr Wiggles is so cute! How long have you had him?" Cute wasn't how most people would describe worms, but this one glowed.

Mr. Wiggles glows yellow and blue at the mention of being cute. Ashley leans her head towards him and nuzzles him. "He is isn't he? My grandpa sent me his egg about 6 months ago to celebrate my record deal. The record company like him so my managers let me keep him."

Ashley motions towards the stagaur. "Whose this little guy?"

"Yes. Free." Mara spoke carefully, trying to keep her tone even. The hand near was a bit too close to that bow and she didn't want anyone aiming an arrow at Blitz. "It's OK! Come get it!"

Very slowly, the small scraggly girl approached. Almost crouching, as if ready to attack or flee at a moments notice. Eyes darting between each person as she got closer, and her hand remained at her side ready to draw that bow on her back.

"Awww, look at him. This little lady is Blitz, Ashley. She's really playful but maybe not suited to battles. I am just here to watch and meet people. Maybe find Blitz a suitable partner."

Blitz was still eagerly stretching on her back legs and jumping to play with the feather, though starting to breathe a little harder. This was some intense play! Finally she reared up and tried to lick Orlok.

Used to working with a variety of wary, yet starving, monsters, Mara applied similar logic to this girl. She backed away slowly and tucked her shoulders and head down trying to looking smaller and less threatening.

Blitz was still eagerly stretching on her back legs and jumping to play with the feather, though starting to breathe a little harder. This was some intense play! Finally she reared up and tried to lick Orlok.

Orlok chittered, his wings fluttering in... some sort of agitation that Calico couldn't quite place as the staguar's tongue contacted his body. He did a sort of backwards loop, then fluttered around making an odd chittering noise.

Calico's spoon had stopped halfway to her mouth.

Is he... no. No way.

He never struck me as the type to make friends, let alone...

'A chasma, eh? I don't know what the best choice will be for her yet. The obvious answer is no constructs or plants. My mother might be able to get a staguar to like a plant but I certain can't. I want her to get a chance to meet plenty of other monsters and see who she best meshes with.'

For his part, Orlok sat still for the feather and carefully fluttered over to perch on Calico's back again.

"My God, bugsy, I think you made a friend!"

"Seems like a good idea. It seems like there's plenty of local life if you're interested in catching a new friend. I just discovered traces of a chasma swarm and decided to give it a try. I wasn't looking particularly myself."

Seeing the other two monsters play together, Ashley asks, "Mr. Wiggles, do you want to make a friend?"

Mr. Wiggles because chewing on Ashley's hair.

Ashley sighs.

"He's just such a charmer, he figures friends should come to him!"

"Well, Kleeth are ambush predators, so that makes sense." While she knows he isn't harming her hair, Ashley doesn't think Mr. Wiggles is particularly charming at this moment.

Ashley gave the girl a shy little wave. She had heard stories about girls like her. Girls who failed to become a star and forced to live on the edge of society. She wanted to help. That could be her. But she wasn't sure what to do.

The movement got her attention and she froze, her spare hand moving behind her again. Eyes narrowed.

"Mine."

Mara looked back and forth between the dragon girl and Ashley. "Yours." She scraped the last of the stew into another bowl. "Hers." She pointed at that bowl and Ashley. "No fights, ok?"

"Go on, eat yours." She felt a little like she was talking to a monster that had somehow learned a few human words. It was oddly comforting, since people were much harder to deal with. "With him?" She pointed in the dragons direction.

"I'm Mara." She pointed to herself, "do you have a name?"
