[EVENT] The Missing Wind (D2, Late Morning)

Near the beach, a young girl is crying uncontrollably as her father tries to comfort her.

"I j-j-just d-don't know why he w-would leeeaaave!" the girl wails, her heavy sobs shaking her small frame.

Her father does her best to comfort her. "I don't know, Emilia. But I'm sure that Mister Whirlywoo will come back soon."

"He doesn't loooove me anymore!" she cries, absolutely overcome with grief.

Seeing that a crowd has gathered around him, the man sheepishly looks up from his daughter. "Ahh... I'm sorry about this, but could someone help us? My daughter's Gympix..."

"Mister Whirlywoo!" the girl laments.

"Yes," he continues, looking exasperated. "He's wandered off somewhere, and Emma here isn't taking it very well. Could any of you folks help find him and bring him back? He's a Gympix with pink streamers tied to his legs and arms. We last saw him down by the beach."

Emma hugs herself tightly. "He's g-gonna g-get eaten by a Hemoredge!" she cries out.

He looks down at her in equal parts concern and confusion. "Those aren't even real," he sighs, exasperated.

Participants: Any number of Wranglers (and their monsters, if desired)

Rules: Characters participating in this thread make each of the indicated Skill Rolls listed below.

  • "It's Over There!": Each character makes an Investigate (Mind) Skill Roll at a Difficulty 2. The character's Bonded monsters can assist her, transforming this into a Cooperative Roll (i.e., each character makes a Skill Roll, and all the successes are added together before consulting the Difficulty). Note that for monsters, who lack Skills, this will be a straight Mind Roll.

On a success, the character spots a Gympix with attached ribbons dancing through the air on the far end of the beach. The character gains 2 Gympoints, plus 1 Gympoint per spent Raise. On a failure, the character gains no Gympoints but eventually realizes where the monster is due to other people pointing it out.

Whooooosh!: As the characters draw close to the Gympix, a sudden burst of wind catches it and blows it straight up into the air... and onto a tall rock that juts out from the beach. The only way to reach it is by climbing up there!

Each character makes an Athletics (Strength) Skill Roll at Difficulty 2 to climb up the rock face. The character's Bonded monsters can assist her, transforming this into a Cooperative Roll (i.e., each character makes a Skill Roll, and all the successes are added together before consulting the Difficulty). Note that for monsters, who lack Skills, this will be a straight Strength Roll. A monster capable of flight can assist their Wrangler as they climb, which provides a single success without any dice roll. If a character is capable of riding their flying monster, they can simply fly up to the top of the rock for a flat 3 Gympoints with no rolls required.

On a success, the character makes it to the top of the rock and gains 2 Gympoints, plus 1 Gympoint per spent Raise. On a failure, the character gains no Gympoints and is out of the event.

Vomit Birds...?: The characters who made it to the top of the rock find themselves staring down the runaway Gympix... and a flock of startled Hergh who watch the twirling plant monster with wide eyes. The Gympix dances off toward the far side of the rock, leaving the flock of agitated Hergh between it and its pursuers.

Each character makes a Stealth (Agility) Skill Roll at Difficulty 2 to sneak past the Hergh without alarming them. The character's Bonded monsters can assist her, transforming this into a Cooperative Roll (i.e., each character makes a Skill Roll, and all the successes are added together before consulting the Difficulty). Note that for monsters, who lack Skills, this will be a straight Agility Roll.

On a success, the character sneaks past the Hergh and catches up with the Gympix on the far side of the rock, gaining 2 Gympoints, plus 1 Gympoint per spent Raise. On a failure, the character is detected and finds themselves subjected to multiple streams of projectile vomit from the startled Herghs. The character earns no Gympoints but may proceed with the event as they stumble forward, covered in vomit and smelling terrible.

Please Come Back: Having finally caught up with the Gympix as it twirls in the wind, each Wrangler may attempt a Wrangle (Energy) Skill Roll at Difficulty 2 to convince the Gympix to go back to its Wrangler. Characters who are covered in vomit from the Hergh have their Success value worsened by 1 on this Skill Roll. Characters who have a Bonded Gympix of their own gain 1 automatic success on this roll, as do characters who can speak with Plant monsters.

On a success, the character earns 3 Gympoints, plus 1 Gympoint per spent Raise. On a failure, the Gympix ignores the character's pleas in favor of dancing happily on the wind.

Conclusion: At the end of the event, the Gympoints earned by each character will be compared, and the character with the most Gympoints will be credited with the Gympix's return to Emila. In the event of a tie, the Wrangler who scored the most points on the Please Come Back step will win the tie breaker, with further tie breakers determined by the "It's Over There!", Whoosh, and Vomit Birds steps (in that order).

Everyone who participated will receive the thanks of Fredrich Cross and his daughter Emilia, and everyone who made it onto the top of the rock will be rewarded by Fredrich with some plant food (1 unit of Monster Chow for Plants). The winner will also receive a 30 onz reward and a hand drawing of the themselves and their monster by Emilia.

by Fiadh
There was far too much noise on the beach from some crying girl complaining about something that had escaped. Fiadh looked around, and saw the tiny thing with a bow. There was a shrug, and Fiadh stomped her way over to the creature, which quickly fled up a cliff!

The girl looked up, looked at the cliff, then with a shrug walked back to her circle. She couldn't see a way to climb up.

by Calico Carter
Just because she'd had a slight windfall didn't mean that Calico wasn't going to stay, well... frugal in her recreation habits, and in her same not-really-swimsuit as the day before, she'd headed out for a morning swim to clear her head (and let Orlok fly around like a crazy bug over the waves as she did so).

Hearing the commotion, she sighed, glanced at Orlok, and shrugged.

"Whaddya say, big guy?"

They didn't have much luck actually finding the little thing on their own, but luckily others were inclined to be helpful.

"... Up on that damn rock, huh. Orlok, if you would?"

He gripped the back of her shirt with his legs and his wings started to really go. Coupled with Claico's own acorbatic background, it made the ascent fairly simple, all was right with the...

Oh god. Why didn't I smell them sooner?

The ripe, warm scent of wild hergh violently assaulted her nostrils, and she nearly added some of her own vomit to their contributions.
The hergh spotted her and generously made up the shortfall, after which, obviously, well, she had no reason to hold back.

Seeing her puke, the hergh backed off a bit, as if uncertain that this vomit-drenched creature puking its guts out wasn't actually one of them.

Poor or not I am BURNING these clothes the first chance I get- oh that is SO gross...

With her free breakfast now mingled with whatever godawful crap the hergh had consumed, Calico pressed on and approached the little plant.

Despite looking like something out of a nightmare, none of Calico's usual charm deserted her, and she proved remarkably persuasive for a gagging woman covered in puke.

["It's Over There!" Investigate/Mind Difficulty 2 with Orlok's help: 5d10h7 1- Nada for the first roll.

Antony's heart broke just a bit at the child's cries.

"Come on Rock, we have to help. How many times have we needed to track."

"Bing-bong"

"That's the spirit!"

Finding the thing wasn't that hard, especially after needing to work through a mine without danger. The ribbons were a bright cue on the top of the rock.

"Come on Rocky, help me up"

"Bummmm bummmmm bummm"

"Hey, I am not that heavy!"

Slowly but surely the pair limped up the side of the rock face, Rocky's effortless flight allowing Antony to have a constant brace for balance.

"Oh no, vomit birds!" Tired and with a bad leg, Antony and Rocky are easy prey for the splatter."

"Whomp whommmmmp!"

"Hey! I don't need the editorializing!"

"Whomp whomp."

Antony gets out a bit of trail food, crumbs really, using it as bait to lure the creature. Would he be first? Time would tell."

by Mara Froste
Mara and Blitz took one look at the crying girl and immediately sprung into action. They had no issue locating the gympix fluttering casually around the beach.

The wind caught the plant monster and blew it high up the cliff. Mara struggled to climb up the rock face. Her handhold broke off, sending her scrambling for anything to grasp. Blitz who had struggled alongside her, tried to catch her handler.... but Blitz is only two feet long. Both fell in an unceremonious heap at the bottom.

Mara looked over at the crying girl and sighed. Someone else would have to fetch her monster.

by Carl Heinrich Mauser
"THERE IT IS!" Carl Heinrich shouted, pointing to the top of a high rock. The boy wrangler and his war wolf had unerringly found their way to the runaway Monster’s hiding place, and the dancing Gympix's silhouette was unmistakable.

Reaching the top of the rock was a challenge, though; it was very high up there.

“No problem!” Carl Heinrich declared. “I have the VERY THING: a man-portable human-operated ALTITUDE ADJUSTMENT device!” So saying, the young engineer rapidly assembled a sturdy yet lightweight aluminum ladder, which he raised to lean against the side of the rock. Testing his weight against the rungs, Carl Heinrich nodded and began to climb the ladder. Killbot Rex remained anxiously at the bottom, moving back and forth as it watched its human climb upwards.

Unfortunately for the intrepid engineer, he had set the base of the ladder on the beach’s damp sand. As the ocean waves lapped at the bottom of the “altitude adjustment device”, the sand began to shift, undermining the ladder.

“OHHHH NOOOOO!” cried Carl Heinrich as the ladder began to fall backwards, carrying him with it. The boy wrangler clutched at the ladder as it flipped over and landed on the sand with a THUMP!

“P-perhaps we’ll leave the physical retrieval for others,” Carl Heinrich said. Killbot Rex wagged its tail.

by Ari
Both Ari and Llyan were alarmed by the thought of a lost monster. They quickly joined the search and soon spotted the Gympix. They raced to catch up to it, but once it was blown into the air it was beyond their reach. They tried to climb up the rock. Llyan even made it halfway. But, neither of them had the strength to reach the top.

"Everyone! Mister Whirlywoo is up there!" Ari called out.

by Sam Eris
Sam was walking with Ginger on her shoulder when they heard the cry for help. Sam and Ginger looked around and Ginger pointed out her fellow gympix. "There he is... Thanks Ginger."

Sam looked in her backpack for a rope so Ginger could fly up and tie it to a stump. The steep climb was really scary but Sam pulled herself up even if she slipped a few time Sam was able to finish the climb. Following the gympix on the winds lead to a group of hergs. Ginger and Sam seemed to work well together to avoid spooking the bird like creatures avoiding being... well vomited on.

They finally got to a good place to call out Mr. Whirlywoo. "Oi... Mr Whirlywoo... would you like to come down." Ginger made her best effort to dance with Mr. Whirlywoo so he could fall gently but the wind carried them away. Ginger is so lazy that just fell to the beach where Sam went to fetch her.

by Felix Lang
Felix heard about the run away monster and took off to help! Him and Suramu jumped into action.....only to not find the small pokemon anywhere. Luckily the group looking had found the trail and they followed along.

Climbing was simple enough, Felix really thought he needed to hit the gym some more, a climb like this should have been cake for him but Suramu gave him a little boost and they made it to the top.

Unfortunately in their earnestness to find the gympix they didn't even notice the startled birds until the pair had been coated in a nice shower of foul vomit.

Understandably, the monster ignored and flitted away from the pair as they tried to chase it and get it to come back.

It's the though that counts right?

Calico took the chance to hurl herself into the sea. For a bit. Orlok, normally one to scorn such practices, also fluttered his wings in the salt water.

The first of many bathing efforts for the two of them through the balance of the morning.
