Simple enough that you don't need a roll. :)

If I wanted to do some wildlife hunting (not fish), which would be the best place forumwise to do it?

I'll get a surrounding area posted up here soon when I'm back to my computer.

So it's fair to say it made a serving per success in case people want food?

Sure, if you want to roll with that. :)

How does Hidden work in relation to area of effect attacks? I imagine some common sense is needed...?

Example 1) Monster A is fighting a Staguar. The Staguar finished its turn by moving into a 5ft cloud effect where it used a reaction to become Hidden 2 thanks to Stalker, which all happens before Monster A's next turn. Monster A now cannot see the Staguar and cannot target it directly. It could have a reaction to try detecting the Staguar. However, it saw the Staguar enter the 5ft cloud. Can it instead target that area with a suitable AOE attack under the belief the Staguar is there?

Example 2) This time the Staguar is hidden in some undergrowth when Monster A and its wrangler enter the area. They know a Staguar is in the area as they came across tracks, but they haven't seen it and they have no clue where it is. Can Monster A use AOE attacks against the Staguar?

I imagine 1) is 'yes' as that seems reasonable, while 2) is an absolute 'no' as Monster A has no reason to believe the Staguar is immediately nearby and certainly no reason to target an AOE in any particular direction?

I believe Monty Python covers this...

Yup!

Area attacks are a very good counter to the Hidden Condition.
Example 2) This time the Staguar is hidden in some undergrowth when Monster A and its wrangler enter the area. They know a Staguar is in the area as they came across tracks, but they haven't seen it and they have no clue where it is. Can Monster A use AOE attacks against the Staguar?
They could technically use Area attacks, but since they don't know where the Staguar actually is, that might very well involve firing off attacks to hit random areas in the hopes that they hit the Staguar. Those attacks might not include any targets at all in their affected area... or you might get lucky and hit the Hidden Staguar (or even another hiding monster).

Also note that monsters don't get Rage unless they're in combat. They can still use Techniques in a narrative sense outside of combat, which is probably what this would count as from the description, but they don't actually start ticking up in Rage until they join a combat.

Thanks MS, that's a really helpful point about 2) and techniques and rage. I was thinking targeting the exact spot would be very much metagaming, but you're right, firing a few blasts here and there might be a good idea to startle a hiding monster or to check if there is one in the area.

Or a good way of annoying/scaring an otherwise docile monster into attacking you!

Cheers!

So, can I try to create a trap using Nature/Mind to try to catch a Chasma since I'm a Trapper? What would the difficulty be? Would it be more to try to catch a juvenile or can I just say I'm making the trap smaller?

Also, would Ashley know if the Chasma are likely to hang around their captured comrade? She wouldn't want to walk into an ambush.

You can toss a random trap out in the field and hope that something wanders into it, but it's probably going to be more effective if you use Monster Bait, which you can use to lure in monsters of specific categories (in this case, Vermin). Since Chasma are low-Rarity, they're not too difficult to lure out.

Would it be possible to create monster bait using Nature? There is the rotting leg after all.

Hmm... I'd say, two uses of a Nature Kit and a Difficulty 2 Nature (Mind) Skill Roll.

The rotting leg isn't of too much interest, as they already got all the meat they wanted off of it.

What roll(s) would it be to find out what Beast type monsters are in the area? Milo would ask around about it too. He's interested in Staguars and Nappen, as they seem to commonly known to live in the wilds here.

Chasma, Treconda, and Nappen are pretty common to the region and won't take any sort of roll to know about; those are freebies.

Beyond that, you could try a Difficulty 1 Monster Lore (Mind) Skill Roll to get a sense for what sort of monsters are likely to be around the region.

In the Region Info thread you mention that "Further south, in the grasslands, lurk Zephid and Staguar...", is it possible to travel far enough south to find and catch a Zephid?

It's going to be a bit of a trip on foot, but yes, that should be possible.

I'll make a location for it!

When a Warwolf uses its Energy Cannon to use a Technique, what Tech Rank should be used in the corresponding Tech Roll?
