"I j-j-just d-don't know why he w-would leeeaaave!" the girl wails, her heavy sobs shaking her small frame.
Her father does her best to comfort her. "I don't know, Emilia. But I'm sure that Mister Whirlywoo will come back soon."
"He doesn't loooove me anymore!" she cries, absolutely overcome with grief.
Seeing that a crowd has gathered around him, the man sheepishly looks up from his daughter. "Ahh... I'm sorry about this, but could someone help us? My daughter's Gympix..."
"Mister Whirlywoo!" the girl laments.
"Yes," he continues, looking exasperated. "He's wandered off somewhere, and Emma here isn't taking it very well. Could any of you folks help find him and bring him back? He's a Gympix with pink streamers tied to his legs and arms. We last saw him down by the beach."
Emma hugs herself tightly. "He's g-gonna g-get eaten by a Hemoredge!" she cries out.
He looks down at her in equal parts concern and confusion. "Those aren't even real," he sighs, exasperated.
Participants: Any number of Wranglers (and their monsters, if desired)
Rules: Characters participating in this thread make each of the indicated Skill Rolls listed below.
- "It's Over There!": Each character makes an Investigate (Mind) Skill Roll at a Difficulty 2. The character's Bonded monsters can assist her, transforming this into a Cooperative Roll (i.e., each character makes a Skill Roll, and all the successes are added together before consulting the Difficulty). Note that for monsters, who lack Skills, this will be a straight Mind Roll.
On a success, the character spots a Gympix with attached ribbons dancing through the air on the far end of the beach. The character gains 2 Gympoints, plus 1 Gympoint per spent Raise. On a failure, the character gains no Gympoints but eventually realizes where the monster is due to other people pointing it out.
Whooooosh!: As the characters draw close to the Gympix, a sudden burst of wind catches it and blows it straight up into the air... and onto a tall rock that juts out from the beach. The only way to reach it is by climbing up there!
Each character makes an Athletics (Strength) Skill Roll at Difficulty 2 to climb up the rock face. The character's Bonded monsters can assist her, transforming this into a Cooperative Roll (i.e., each character makes a Skill Roll, and all the successes are added together before consulting the Difficulty). Note that for monsters, who lack Skills, this will be a straight Strength Roll. A monster capable of flight can assist their Wrangler as they climb, which provides a single success without any dice roll. If a character is capable of riding their flying monster, they can simply fly up to the top of the rock for a flat 3 Gympoints with no rolls required.
On a success, the character makes it to the top of the rock and gains 2 Gympoints, plus 1 Gympoint per spent Raise. On a failure, the character gains no Gympoints and is out of the event.
Vomit Birds...?: The characters who made it to the top of the rock find themselves staring down the runaway Gympix... and a flock of startled Hergh who watch the twirling plant monster with wide eyes. The Gympix dances off toward the far side of the rock, leaving the flock of agitated Hergh between it and its pursuers.
Each character makes a Stealth (Agility) Skill Roll at Difficulty 2 to sneak past the Hergh without alarming them. The character's Bonded monsters can assist her, transforming this into a Cooperative Roll (i.e., each character makes a Skill Roll, and all the successes are added together before consulting the Difficulty). Note that for monsters, who lack Skills, this will be a straight Agility Roll.
On a success, the character sneaks past the Hergh and catches up with the Gympix on the far side of the rock, gaining 2 Gympoints, plus 1 Gympoint per spent Raise. On a failure, the character is detected and finds themselves subjected to multiple streams of projectile vomit from the startled Herghs. The character earns no Gympoints but may proceed with the event as they stumble forward, covered in vomit and smelling terrible.
Please Come Back: Having finally caught up with the Gympix as it twirls in the wind, each Wrangler may attempt a Wrangle (Energy) Skill Roll at Difficulty 2 to convince the Gympix to go back to its Wrangler. Characters who are covered in vomit from the Hergh have their Success value worsened by 1 on this Skill Roll. Characters who have a Bonded Gympix of their own gain 1 automatic success on this roll, as do characters who can speak with Plant monsters.
On a success, the character earns 3 Gympoints, plus 1 Gympoint per spent Raise. On a failure, the Gympix ignores the character's pleas in favor of dancing happily on the wind.
Conclusion: At the end of the event, the Gympoints earned by each character will be compared, and the character with the most Gympoints will be credited with the Gympix's return to Emila. In the event of a tie, the Wrangler who scored the most points on the Please Come Back step will win the tie breaker, with further tie breakers determined by the "It's Over There!", Whoosh, and Vomit Birds steps (in that order).
Everyone who participated will receive the thanks of Fredrich Cross and his daughter Emilia, and everyone who made it onto the top of the rock will be rewarded by Fredrich with some plant food (1 unit of Monster Chow for Plants). The winner will also receive a 30 onz reward and a hand drawing of the themselves and their monster by Emilia.
