[D3 EE] A Night Out

[Felix Lang]

"How did you get into that line of work anyway?" He asked with a curious expression "just seems an odd leap from dancing to trapping."

[Calico Carter]

"Dad was a trapper."

She sighed.

"He was really happy I was gonna do something cleaner and safer, even if the performance bit was really more Mom's idea, but I learned a bit when I was little. You know, tagging along. Seeing how he did stuff. Honestly, I'm not especially good at it, but it's steady work people will let me do, so..."

[Felix Lang]

"Can't be too bad, got yourself a nice catch like Orlok. And you know you're still kicking around so you're getting by. Seems like you might be at least a decent trapper."

[Calico Carter]

"Well, I still have all my fingers, so I suppose you've got a point. I tell you what, though, it's a lot easier with Orlok to lend a hand."

[Felix Lang]

"Hey there's a reason we developed like we did. These monsters are great companions and help us as much as we help them most of the time."

"I'm sure at least sometimes Orlok feels like he's the one watching out for you." He chuckles.

[Calico Carter]

"Sometimes? Try all of the time. He can dazzle with his wings, freeze things in their tracks, knock people out with his mind, or just fry their brains. Me? I can, uh... set a trap sometimes, and he's figured out I sometimes know where the food is."

[Felix Lang]

"They really can do incredible things, almost makes you wonder why we're seen as the ones in charge huh?" He wondered a loud as they walked.

Shifting from streets and buildings flanking them, they turned off to a street that opened up to the ocean on one side. This really showed why this place was a vacation destination outside the tournamet as the moon reflected the gentle waves of the nighttime water under the starry sky. A beautiful clear night.

[Calico Carter]

"I figure we're just lucky any of them bond with us at all. And think about it, all of the monsters in this tournament stand to grow bigger and tougher yet."

[Felix Lang]

He nodded smile pulling up the corners of his mouth "Yeah you got that right on both accounts. Suramu will be as big as me one day." A little chuckle "will certainly come in handy for our little gang."

A gentle breeze from the ocean blew in, colder in the night air

"So what do you like to do when you're not being a decent trapper or rocking battle tournaments?"

[Calico Carter]

"Well. Time was I liked placing stupid bets I was really sure of. Hasn't left me much time for leisure as such since. But I used to like taking in shows when I wasn't performing in them..."

[Felix Lang]

"Ahh digging the arts I see. Makes sense I guess since you were a dancer. Did you like seeing plays or other Dances?" He asked also wondering if Crayton had a place for something like that.

[Calico Carter]

"Dances, plays, concerts, movies, you name it. It all had something to recommend it!"

[Felix Lang]

"Absolutely get that, only been to a few concerts myself. Never any plays for dance performances. I liked going to movies a lot when I was a kid, it was usually a big deal when my parents would take me down the mountain to the town there that had a movie theater."

[Calico Carter]

"We had a movie theater in town."

Before the fire.

"Not a big one, but you usually had a choice of three second-run movies- usually selected from the most family-friendly options available, I think, because they wanted to maximize ticket sales."

[Felix Lang]

He gave a nod "Makes sense, want to appeal to the largest audience possible if you're in a small area I guess."

"That's cool though, it sounds pretty similar to the theater near my village."

[Calico Carter]

"Yeah, once a year, we'd go to Dester so Mom could visit her family, and then I'd whine my head off until someone caved in and let us go to a real first-run theater."

She chuckled.

"I still had to go see kiddie fare for most of those visits, but when we got back to the Bay... I could brag about having seen stuff already."

[Felix Lang]

"Oooo fancy girl huh? Had a friend like that with family in the capital who would always come back bragging about all the cool stuff in the big city. Always envied him."

"That was actually one of the first places I went when I left home it was less than I had expected."

[Calico Carter]

"In my experience, no city ever lives up to the hype you get out of a kid who's been there when you haven't..."

[Felix Lang]

"Yup Kid me built it up as this magical, life changing place and it was you know just a place but bigger."

"Most places are just basically the same I think, only real difference is more or less stuff around. But it's all just people living together being people and trying to get by."

He chuckled "I think I'd make a terrible philosopher. I'll stick to picking up heavy things."

[Calico Carter]

"And training Suramu, of course."
