Trash Bandits (D3, Early Morning)

Post by Mindshred » Sun Apr 09, 2023 1:50 pm

The pristine grounds of the Oceanside Hotel look a little different this morning: the gates leading to the dumpster area have been pulled off their hinges, and garbage and refuse has been strewn across the area in a disorganized mess. A few guests are gawking at the apparent perpetrators of the event: three Panchin, one adult and two juveniles, are rooting through the garbage and gulping down the food scraps discarded by the hotel's restaurant.

The hotel's concierge is watching from a distance and fretting. "Excuse me!" she calls out, nervously glancing back to the ravenous monsters. "Can someone please help drive these things off?"

One of the guests steps forward and tries to make calming sounds, but the largest of the Panchin just swipes at him, drawing blood as he staggers back. Clearly, these monsters are in a surly mood...

Participants: 3 Wranglers (with their Monsters) who are not participating in the tournament today. Post your initiative rolls in your opening post.

Victory Conditions: All three Panchin knocked Unconscious or driven away.

Rules: This is a combat thread. Characters should include their Initiatives and the Initiatives of their monsters in their first post; you may make your initial post and then edit the Initiatives in after you've rolled them.

All characters begin 20 feet from the Adult Panchin and 30 feet from the Juvenile Panchin (Juvenile M and Juvenile F).

Wrangling: Characters may use the Wrangle Skill to influence the Panchin. To do so, the character uses a Standard Action and makes a Wrangler (Energy) Skill Roll against the Willpower of the targeted Panchin (i.e., Difficulty 2). Each time a character attempts to Wrangler a Panchin (regardless of success or failure), the Difficulty of future Wrangle attempts against that particular Panchin increase by +1 for the remainder of this event. Unconscious Panchin can't be influenced in this way.

The Success Value of this Wrangle (Energy) Skill Roll is worsened by 1, due to the monsters being hostile, and is worsened by an additional 1 if anyone is in combat with any of the Panchin (which is extremely likely outside of the first round). If a Panchin is Bloodied, or if it is offered suitable food (better than garbage), the Success Value of this Skill Roll improves by 1.

On a success, the character can force the Panchin to perform an ordered task (such as running off). The Panchin won't perform any task that endangers themselves or the other Panchin.

If a character gets a Raise on this Skill Roll, they may choose to make the Panchin become Bonded to them, at which point it leaves combat for the rest of the event (though it will return after the fighting is over).

"We'll help!"

Milo had just finished breakfast and collected Diva when he'd heard the commotion.

"Um, please stay back." He calls out to the brave guest as he signalled Diva forward. The Warwolf barks and gets ready for a scrap.

"FEAR NOT, good Citizen," Carl Heinrich boomed. "We will demonstrate the SUPERIORITY of Majuul engineering over these TRASH PANDAS."

Killbot Rex barked happily and eyed the strange looking squirrels, prepared to give chase!

“WAIT! I have a THING for this!” Carl Heinrich exclaimed.

Pulling a megaphone out of his engineer’s toolkit, the blond boy pointed it at the largest Panchin and shouted through it: “BEGONE you FELONIOUS PROCYONID! Leave be the DISCARDED RUBBISH of your BETTERS and RETURN to the FAR FOREST where you BELONG!”

The megaphone amplified Carl Heinrich’s voice to a deafening volume. But the Panchin seemed completely unimpressed.

Milo was shocked the Panchin weren't running because of the other boy and his VERY LOUD shouting. The megaphone was awfully distracting. Perhaps that was why he own attempt failed?

He'd taken a monster treat out of his bag and waved it about to catch the attention of the Panchins. Then he'd followed up by tossing it near one of juveniles at the back. The creature had glanced at it and then immediately turned back to the impending brawl.

"Oh great... that didn't work."

Sam Eris looked on her bag to see what she could pull up but she didn't have any food to entice the young panchin. She found a little shiny bell to try and see if it called the attention if the little one. "Hey little one look at the shiny little bell!" The panchin was too hungry to pay attention to the bell.

Rex advanced slowly, his red eyes flashing. The war wolf emitted an electronic-sounding growl to warn the Panchin off from threatening his friends!

"Don't attack yet," Carl Heinrich said, lowering the megaphone. "Maybe we can convince them to leave!"

"I don't think they want to listen, but you can try." Milo voices back as he eyed the pack of Panchin cautiously.

Diva followed the other Warwolf in advancing forward and letting out a warning growl. Maybe it'd scare them off... or maybe it'd just rile the other monsters up?

[Gain +2 Rage, 2 Total]

The juvenile male looks back and forth between the growling metal wolves and the bigger humans. Then its eyes settle on the smallest target: Ginger.

It rushes up to the small Gympix and smacks the smaller monster with its tail, pricking her with numerous small, poisoned barbs. (Ginger suffers 1 Damage and becomes Poisoned 1.)

[6/6 Health, 0 Rage, in melee with everyone]

Just then, the wind - which had been blowing the stench of the Panchin away from the group, dies down, leaving them overwhelmed in a sudden upwelling of musk that smelled like sulphur and rotten eggs.

(Because of Stench, everyone who begins their turn within 20 ft. of a Panchin becomes Sickened 1. This stacks from multiple Panchin! It hasn't applied until now, because the GM forgot to mention it. XD)

Adult Panchin
[+2 Rage]

The adult Panchin rushes toward Diva, hitting the metallic monster with its barb-filled tail. The attack isn't effective, and it chirps something to its younger child.
(1 Damage, reduced to 0, Diva becomes Poisoned and doesn't care.)

[2/2 Rage, in melee with everyone)

Panchin Juvenile F
The third Panchin darts forward and lunges at Carl, catching him across an arm with its bushy tail. Little poisoned barbs are left sticking out of the young Wrangler.
(Carl suffers 1 Damage, becomes Poisoned 1)

Carl Heinrich gasped and dropped the megaphone as the poison barbs sank home, but he shook off the pain.

“I said, BEGONE, you *koff* stinking TRASH-EATING scavenger!” the boy wrangler shouted, raising his arms and waving them in an attempt to frighten off the attacking Panchin. “You’ll find only PAIN and SUFFERING here! *koff koff*”

The horrid stench sent Carl Heinrich into a coughing fit, which rather ruined the effect of his shouted commands.

Carl Heinrich starts with Health 5/6, Poisoned 1, in melee.
Start of turn: Carl Heinrich gains Sickened 3.
Recovery roll: D3 Round 2: Recovery roll, Vitality vs Poison: 2d10o10h7 1 success, Poison goes away.

This was gross. Worse still, Carl was being attacked. These Panchin were dangerous!

"Let's get back." Milo advises. He felt sick, but he was resisting the effects. Perhaps because the Panchin seemed to dislike Carl and his megaphone the most.

Disengaging carefully, Milo moves away from the Panchin and the bins. "Diva, drive them away." He adds, covering his mouth until he reached where it was easier to breathe.
